10 Tips and Things to Know When Playing Persona 4 Golden

It becomes a dream come true, of course, when the Persona (main) game series, which has been exclusively for PlayStation for years, is finally released on the PC platform. Yes, Atlus recently removed the bars of exclusivity of Persona 4 Golden from the PS Vita and headed to PC via Steam. And in just a matter of hours, the game, which is about eight years old, was immediately flooded with positive reviews on its Steam page.

We are now officially on the platform Tiktok! Follow our Tiktok account at @gamebrott.com to find various information and our other interesting video content.

This certainly revives nostalgia for old fans to solve the murder mystery that occurred in the small town of Inaba. And of course this also opens up new opportunities for players who are curious about why Persona 4 or Persona 4 Golden has become a JRPG game that is loved by fans from all over the world.

In particular, I myself as an old fan would like to welcome the new players. And here I will give some tips and describe the things you need to know when playing Persona 4 Golden, with the hope that the resulting gaming experience can be maximized.

1. Prologue is about 3 to 4 hours long

One thing I noticed when reading various opinions regarding Persona 4 Golden itself was that many players were already bored because the first few hours were full of dialogues between characters. So know that almost every Persona game in general does present a similar prologue formula.

Atlus tries to introduce the world setting and story, as well as the gameplay elements offered in the combat segment and the social segment. In Persona 4 Golden itself, you will probably spend about 3 to 4 hours, only to be given the freedom to choose the activities you want to do. Not only that, various other new features will also be unlocked as the game progresses.

Therefore, please be patient and do not need to rush. Actually Persona 4 Golden is more suitable to be enjoyed casually while listening to the strains soundtrack cool that is the main characteristic of Persona games. Unless you really don’t like the presentation of Visual Novel-style stories that tend to require a lot of reading, then this game may not be suitable for you.

2. Persona 4 Golden has a Rush button for the story

If you’ve played the Persona 4 game and want to skip the story, Persona 4 Golden now has a Rush button to speed up the dialogues, even through the anime cutscenes. Please also note that Rush will not continue when the dialogue options appear, so you certainly don’t have to worry about missing the right dialogue.

However, since there is a new part of the story, it is advisable not to continue using it unless you are sure that the dialogue is exactly the same as the Persona 4 version.

3. Blind Playthrough vs Guided Playthrough?

If it’s your first time trying the game Persona 4 Golden or Persona 4, then I highly recommend playing the game blindly or without using any guide for a more optimal playing experience.

Persona 4 Golden not only offers combat elements in the style of JRPG games in general, but also offers elements of a dating sim-style game, where the two things are of course mutually sustainable. You may spend more time on the dating sim or social segmentation, namely interacting with school friends or your relatives and maximizing their Social Link level.

If you choose to play without a guide, then I suggest focusing on increasing your five social statuses. This is because many Social Link interactions can only be done when your social status is high. For example, one of your friends will not spend time with you if your knowledge status is low or still stupid, or your friend who invites you to skip school but can’t because your courage status is still low.

You could say it’s quite impossible to maximize Social Link in blind playthrough due to limited time. Therefore, I recommend enjoying the game fully without a guide first, then using the guide on New Game+, because the social status you have previously raised will be carried over to the next game. I’m pretty sure even though you’ve spent dozens of hours playing, you’ll be interested in repeating the game from the beginning.

4. Diligently explore during the first few months

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Persona 4 Golden, then I recommend diligently exploring the ins and outs of the city of Inaba for at least the first two or three months of the game. So many features and game elements that you can find and take advantage of. This game also of course offers different activities between day and night.

And as explained earlier, there are still various other features that will be unlocked as the game progresses. Like a bookstore that sells different books every month, then activities that can only be done when it rains and many more.

5. Use the Voice feature and school toilet

A little related to the previous point, there are so many activities that can be done, I’m pretty sure that you will often be confused about what to do. If you are connected to the internet, then you can use the Voice feature which will show the activities carried out by various other players at that time.

In addition, occasionally use the WC at your school to get random game insights or remind you of various activities you can do that day.

6. The first two dungeons are quite difficult

In Persona 4 Golden, the first two dungeons that you will face are quite difficult because your character is certainly still weak and the features are not yet unlocked. This is because you need to do grinding and collect various Personas which of course will be used in various fighting situations. This process can certainly be very SP draining, so your ability to manage SP usage will also be tested, especially in the first two dungeons.

As a tip, I suggest grinding until your character is level 18 for the first dungeon and level 25 for the second dungeon. So you may need to go back and forth to move floors to hunt down the various existing Shadows. Indirectly this will also make you find more treasure chests, where you have the opportunity to find various equipment that is useful in battle.

7. Direct command all your party members

Every time you get a new party member, don’t forget to change their battle tactics to direct command or control them directly. You certainly don’t want them to carry out various actions automatically which can be sure will be very wasteful of SP.

8. Try to clear the dungeon in one day

If you decide to enter a dungeon, then try to finish the dungeon on the same day, including grinding. This is of course not easy because you need to manage your SP usage for more effective battles. It is recommended to buy various consumption items for HP and SP so that your party can last longer.

Why in one day? So that you can maximize activities outside of combat such as increasing your social status; study for UTS, attend extracurricular activities, work part time. Not only that, of course you also need to level up your friends’ Social Links and make them fall in love with you, and make them even more effective in battle.

9. Clear each dungeon twice

When you complete a dungeon, then return to the dungeon before continuing to the next dungeon. The dungeon you have completed will be reset and a new mini boss will appear on the highest floor. So that indirectly you will also go back to grinding until you face the mini boss.

It doesn’t stop there, there are special weapons that you can find in the boss room when you come for the second time. After eliminating the existing mini boss, try to explore the room until it appears prompt search for special weapons at the end of the dungeon.

10. Managing Social Links

I’m pretty sure that the dating sim segmentation in the Persona 4 Golden game or Persona games in general may be more difficult than the combat segmentation. Namely because there are so many Social Links available and time is limited. And you could say it’s very, very difficult to maximize all existing Social Links without a guide.

Each existing Social Link has its own provisions to be invited to interact. Some can only be invited on certain days, some won’t be there when it rains, some need to have a high social status and so on. Make a note of the schedule whenever you can interact with characters with Social Links.

Each Social Link has a maximum of 10 levels, but you certainly won’t be able to maximize it in just 10 meetings. The increase in the level of Social Link depends on the dialogue choices you take, this can be seen from the musical note icon that appears in their heads. In general, you have to agree with the opinions they give you, but there are some moments where the choice of dialogue that goes against the opinion will actually increase your Social Link points. This certainly encourages you to pay attention to the dialogue and understand the problems faced by the people you interact with.

Some other things I would suggest are; always bring a Persona that matches the Arcana Social Link you interact with, where I also suggest reaching level 30 immediately to unlock 12 Persona slots that can be carried. Other things like hanging out on Sundays, having lunch together, and getting good grades during UTS and UAS can also increase your school friends’ Social Link points.

Not only that, I also recommend immediately increasing the Social Link of the character that you can invite to dungeons and become a party. At least until Social Link level 2 or 3 where related party members can attack follow-up which is of course very useful. And of course I also suggest bringing Chie the best girl because she can do attacks follow-up the instant-kill.
