Release of The Last of Us Part 2 Postponed to End of May 2020

After previously it was rumored that The Last of Us Part 2 would be delayed in release, recently Sony and Naughty Dog confirmed that this was indeed true. The release that was originally on February 21, 2020, now falls on May 29, 2020.

Through the PlayStation Blog, Neil Druckmann as the director of The Last of Us game explained that this was done because the development team wanted to further polish the game for the best quality. Here’s the director’s translated statement:

(…), We realized that we didn’t have enough time to bring the whole game to the level of polish that we consider to be the quality of Naughty Dog. At this point we are faced with two choices: leave it alone or increase the time (development). We decided to increase the time, and with this new release date it allows us to get things done the way we want without putting too much stress on the team.
(…), We were disappointed because we couldn’t avoid this situation. We really hope to be able to predict the time it will take to polish the game, (…). We hate to disappoint the fans and for that we apologize.
We hope you understand that this additional development time ensures that The Last of Us Part 2 will be present in accordance with our ambitions as well as our commitment to deliver the best quality.

Since it was first announced at the end of 2016, The Last of Us Part 2 for the past few years has continued to show bits of gameplay and story, which of course makes many fans wonder and can’t wait to see the continuation of Ellie and Joel’s story.

Even though it sounds disappointing, it seems that we can only be patient and hope for the best for the developer in order to present a quality game The Last of Us 2.
