10 PS1 Games That You Must Get Sequels
With the advancement of technology, of course, many of the older players who had time to enjoy PS1 games in the 90-2000s missed how video game designs were made for fun without having to care about money games and the greed of human nature. A design that is quite rare to find in modern video games.

But on the other hand, many of you may think that the past is past and doesn’t need to be redrawn. Even so, the memories that are actually very sweet if you remember them will certainly be very interesting if a sequel is made without the need to re-create the series.
If you look back, a lot of PS1 games can be said to be stuck in the console that was released in 1994 and didn’t get a sequel. Indeed, some were remastered and remake in modern technology. But not a few of the cool titles that don’t get attention because either the developer is bankrupt or the publisher really wants to look at titles that are sure to sell.
Even so, of course it would be very interesting if the 10 PS1 game titles below could be considered for getting a sequel. Especially for the title that proved successful at that time.
Here are 10 PS1 games that must get a sequel.
10. Tomba!
Tomba! So one of the first platformer adventure games on PS1 to inject RPG elements into its gameplay. The game tells of a character named Tomba who must explore his hometown to defeat the evil Koma Pig and retrieve his grandfather’s gold bracelet. The semi-open world can be explored at will after all the areas are opened as the story progresses.
Unfortunately Sony Interactive Entertainment discontinued the series after the release of the second iteration. They actually have planned a new series Tomba! which fans assume to be Tomba! 3 but had to be rolled back when the first alpha build was released internally. With the bankrupt developer who developed it, Whoopee Camp, it looks like it will take a long time for Sony to change its mind to make a sequel.
9. Twisted Metal
Twisted Metal is a vehicular combat game that became one of the pioneering titles for the popularity of the genre. The game tells the story of the feud between Calypso and a clown named Sweet Tooth which leads them to battle between highly armed cars/motorcycles.
Indeed, the game had a spin-off and reboot on PS3, but Sony Interactive Entertainment as the licensee never continued it at all. On PS1 alone Twisted Metal stalled in the fourth iteration with a spin-off Small Brawl which involves an R/C car or remote control with its unique powers.
8. Parasite Eve
Yes, I know Parasite Eve actually get a “sequel” in the form of a spin-off on the PSP entitled The 3rd Birthday. However, since its second iteration Square-Enix has not continued the series despite the fact that it is one of the games that has become a strong competitor Resident Evil in his time.
Unlike Capcom’s survival horror game, in Parasite Eve The player will play Aya Brea, a member of the New York police on her mission to eradicate mutants from a woman named Eve. In addition to the battle action it carries, the game also has RPG elements throughout the game.
Although the game itself is a sequel to Hideaki Sena’s adaptation of the novel of the same name, Square-Enix’s reluctance to continue it in a numbered series made them automatically eliminated from the competition against Capcom.
7. Alundra
If you see Genshin Impact as imitator Zelda, then you need to look back how Alundra became one of the first imitators. This action RPG game does have many elements similar to the Nintendo title, from puzzles, top-down cameras, to world and dungeon exploration.
Alundra have puzzles that are extremely difficult, even by modern-day standards. This is what makes him flooded with praise by the media. Of course, the controls and actions cannot be standard in modern times because they are quite old school.
Sony and Matrix Software unfortunately don’t want to continue the iteration of the game after the second iteration with a lighter story was released on PS1.
6. Koudelka
Koudelka so it’s one of the RPG games that has a dark story and setting throughout PS1’s gait. Players will play a girl named Koudelka Iasant who is attracted to Nemeton Mansion which was previously a medieval monastery. On his way he will meet a variety of strange and scary events, including the terrible mystery behind the history of Nemeton Mansion.
The game is divided into scenes, exploration, puzzles, and of course battles against the monsters that inhabit Nemeton. Unfortunately he was not resumed and was only limited to one series.
This is not without reason because the developers themselves, Sacnoth have now merged and separated from their respective parent companies. From SNK to Aruze. They also briefly changed their name to Nautilus. Several of its employees worked under Feelplus and became one with AQ Interactive which eventually went bankrupt.
The creator and drafter who is also a former developer of Squaresoft (now Square-Enix), Hiroki Kikuta who is now focusing as a freelance composer, is one of the reasons why the game doesn’t get a sequel. But of course it would be very interesting if Kikuta redeveloped Koudelka as a sequel or maybe a reboot in the future.
5. Pepsiman
Pepsiman actually a game made to promote Pepsi, a cola company that is one of the competitors for the Coca-Cola brand. The game is quite simple, where players will play Pepsiman who continues to run and collect Pepsi while avoiding obstacles.
Unfortunately, he stopped on PS1 only and was not continued. Even though they can explore the power of Pepsiman which indirectly becomes a new superhero in its development. Is it possible that Pepsi is no longer interested in getting into the world of video games?
4. The Legend of Dragoon
Made to compete Final Fantasy, The Legend of Dragoon or Legend of Dragon because “The” is written so small that sometimes it’s not included, it’s very influenced by the game made by Square-Enix. Even so, the game managed to create a very epic original story with a timed button press that was able to become a new innovation in its turn-based combat.
The Legend of Dragoon tells the story of Dartz who is looking for his parents after being left behind when a dragon attack hits his village. In the middle of the story he discovers an interesting mystery related to the power of the Dragoon and the secret behind the disappearance of his parents. Unfortunately, Sony, which at that time had the game license, did not continue the series even though it was originally intended to compete Final Fantasy.
3. Thousand Arms
Combining JRPGs with dating sims may not be a new thing in this day and age. Variety of games like Sakura Wars even Persona have done it. But did you know that Thousand Arms used to be one of the pioneers?
The game, which is set in the steampunk world, tells of a mysterious organization containing cyborgs and robots named Dark Acolytes who intend to find the five legendary Sacred Flames and destroy the world. Meis Triumph, the main character was chosen to be one of the individuals assigned to find the Sacred Flame before the Dark Acolyte. However, to increase the power of his weapon, Meis must increase his “intimacy level” by helping and dating girls he finds along his journey.
Even though they are both made by ATLUS, but their popularity Persona the successful one Shin Megami Tensei doesn’t make them intend to continue the series Thousand Arms which until now has not received a sequel at all since its release on PS1.
2. Chrono Cross
Till this moment it’s a draw Chrono it is only limited to two games, namely Chrono Trigger and Cross. Both have different main characters and worlds, but have the same concept, namely time. Chrono Cross actually has a very interesting premise with the concept of parallel worlds and time travel. You will be swayed by the story of Serge and his friends who dwell on friendship, conspiracy, and love.
Unfortunately, Square-Enix discontinued Chrono Cross since they released the franchise on PlayStation 1. Their efforts to maintain that they are the franchise owners Chrono just porting Chrono Trigger which happens to be very popular because it has many endings on mobile and PC.
1. Vigilante 8
Stopped in the second iteration, that’s what can describe the life of the vehicular combat franchise Vigilante 8. Since the developer, Luxoflux was closed by Activision in 2010, the fate of this franchise has not received any news at all. Activision also has no intention of developing a sequel on PS2, PS3, or PS4.
Vigilante 8 simply, it is a game where players will be able to control a variety of cars with their own special weapons. Each car has a character with a unique story. The mode, which is limited to deathmatch survival, became one of the forerunners of “battle royale” in the form of a car.
Those are 10 PS1 games that must get a sequel. Of course, the list above is our hope… I personally want developers and publishers to return the lyrics to old games. No need to try hard to make a remaster or remake, but immediately make a sequel whether it’s a continuation story or maybe a new story is safer like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest.
