Assassin's Creed Director Valhalla Fired by Ubisoft

Ashraf Ismail will now not be under Valhalla’s control forever.

At the end of last June, the internet was shocked by the confessions of women who confessed that they had experienced sexual harassment in the video game and streaming industry. Many of these claims refer to Ubisoft, where they explain that the working world of the French developer and publisher prefers the culture of male workers.

Knowing this, CEO Yves Guillemot promised changes will occur in the office that has been led by his family for generations. Guillemot said he would try all his staff from various positions, including the executives. This makes the staff have to take time off. The result? Executives such as Tommy Francois and Maxime Beland, including one of the studio’s most influential people, Serge Hascoet were laid off after their investigation.

This apparently also relates to the case of Ashraf Ismail, Creative Director Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla which will be released this year. Where he experienced an infidelity case involving himself with one of the fans. Making him have to take time off from work to solve the problem. However, who would have thought, Ubisoft actually took firm steps against him.

According to a report by Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, Ubisoft claimed to have terminated Ashraf Ismail’s employment relationship. A Ubisoft spokesperson explained that after Ismail was investigated, he was immediately terminated from his employment with the French company.

Jason Schreier confirmed that Ismail’s termination had nothing to do with his affair. However, Ubisoft may find something else from its investigation that makes Ismail no longer fit to serve at the French studio.

With Ismail gone, it is not clear whether this will affect development Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla which is scheduled to be released on November 17, 2020 later on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One with release plans for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X after that.
