Bayonetta Creator Explains Collaboration Between PlatinumGames and Tencent
Some time ago PlatinumGames as the developer of popular action games such as Bayonetta and NieR: Automata received funding from the giant Chinese publisher, Tencent. This of course makes fans assume that Tencent ‘holds’ control over PlatinumGames, despite PlatinumGames’ statement saying that Tencent has no influence on the development of their games.
We are now officially on the platform Tiktok! Follow our Tiktok account at @gamebrott.com to find various information and our other interesting video content.
Recently, Tencent was reported to have the largest stake in Marvelous, which then made fans make statements like Marvelous was the next Tencent victim after PlatinumGames. A little annoyed to see this, Hideki Kamiya as the creator of Bayonetta and has an important position at PlatinumGames finally stepped in to explain about the funding that Tencent had given some time ago.
Launching from Siliconera, Kamiya explained that the collaboration between PlatinumGames and Tencent were; Tencent asked to be given priority license if PlatinumGames is interested in making mobile games from games that have been made. Hideki Kamiya tried to explain this in a language that was easy for children to understand as a form of ridicule to people who knew everything about the collaboration. The following is Kamiya’s explanation which we have tried to translate into Indonesian.
This may be useless as you won’t understand no matter how many times I explain it, but just in case, our relationship with Tencent is as simple as this:
Tencent: We will provide financial assistance. According to the contract, we will not affect its management so that you can use the funds freely in making good games.
PlatinumGames:Okay
Tencent: Instead, if you make a good game and want to make a mobile game out of it, we ask that you give us priority manufacturing licenses.
PlatinumGames: Okay
—Hideki Kamiya
Tencent itself seems to be more interested in presenting mobile games because the market itself is quite fast in Asia, such as PUBG Mobile in Southeast Asia which is very successful for example. Considering that the PlatinumGames game itself presents the NieR Reincarnation game for mobile, it is possible that other games from other PlatinumGames games will appear.
