Considered propaganda, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reboot is flooded with negative reviews by Russian gamers
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was released 5 days ago and is currently receiving a positive response from critics, however, things are different when we talk about gamers, especially from Russia. According to the media and gamers there, the latest Call of Duty series has reversed the history of tragedies that occurred in the real world and spread anti-Russian propaganda against their consumers.

The mission that sparked the controversy was Highway of Death. In this mission, you play as Alex, a CIA agent who is ordered to carry out an operation sniping on a street filled with burning cars. Game explains that the history behind the name of the street comes from the bombardment of Russian soldiers during their raid missions, they killed hundreds of people who tried to escape from the area. Even though the game is claimed to be set in a fictional setting, Russian critics and gamers are starting to notice the similarities between the mission’s setting and Highway of Death which does exist in the real world.
Also known as Highway 80, this road between Kuwait and Iraq was the scene of attacks by US troops during the Gulf War (Gulf War). A coalition of the United States, Canada, France and Britain attacked Iraqi troops trying to withdraw from Kuwait after a ceasefire. This incident was later reported as an act of war crime.
So, uh, it turns out that the new Modern Warfare game just sorta lies about a US war crime and makes it a Russian one because it needs the US forces to be seen as the good guys.
So that’s… I don’t really have words for how to feel right now. Disgusted, probably. pic.twitter.com/8wGRIuYkKk

the new call of duty campaign has a moment where the player is told that the Highway of Death was done by the russians in 1991. if you’re not familiar, this war crime was committed by the united states and its allies, russia had no involvement https://t.co/nBmk5cnQVe

Russian critics and gamers think that both Activision and Infinity Ward are afraid to present what really happened and instead change history and antagonize Russia for actions that they don’t interfere with. Because of this, games are seen as American propaganda. As a result, the game user score on Metacritic immediately fell to 3.4 from the initial release. Hundreds of reviews with zero points are scattered not because the game released is bad, but because of the Russian representation in the game.
As a result of this mission deemed offensive, the game has reportedly been withdrawn digitally from the PS Store region of Russia. Not only that, several TV media in Russia have also reported on the controversy behind this mission (via BBC).
