Through a post on Twitter, PlayStation announced that Returnal was postponed to April 30, 2021. Previously, the game which was built using Unreal Engine 4 was slated to launch on March 19, 2021. Returnal itself will follow the story of Selene, a spaceship pilot who is trapped in an alien planet and cannot die. Every time he dies, he will be “awakened” to fight again. Along her journey, Selene will discover not only secrets about the planet but also its past. Housemarque describes Returnal as a roguelike shooter game with a thick sci-fi feel.
When released later, Returnal will also support advanced features carried by DualSense such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. For example, if the player presses the L2 button halfway, the player will enter normal aiming mode, while if L2 is fully pressed, the player’s weapon will switch to an alternative shooting mode.
