[REVIEW] Red Dead Redemption 2 PC - Reborn With More Charm!

You could say that last year was one of the biggest for Rockstar, through its masterpiece – Red Dead Redemption 2 Rockstar managed to provide an open world experience that is second to none. The game appears to be the most ambitious masterpiece that Rockstar has worked on so far. Through our review last year, we did not even hesitate to call Red Dead Redemption 2 a fantastic masterpiece and will never be forgotten.

Rockstar’s decision to bring the game only for the PlayStation 4 & Xbox One platform is indeed a lot of regret, especially for PC gamers who don’t have the opportunity. But time goes on, PC gamers are still waiting for certainty, and finally the wait is answered, Rockstar officially announced the PC version of Red Dead Redemption.

After more than a year of waiting, now it’s finally the turn of PC gamers to enjoy the wild west themed game. The dream about enjoying Rockstar’s masterpieces through a platform that “could” be more powerful than consoles has now become a reality, and of course there are many improvements expected in the PC version this time. But is it true that the long wait has paid off sweetly and is worth everything that has been expected? This PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 review will discuss it further.

Those of you who have read our previous reviews or have played Red Dead Redemption 2 on the console version of course know what Rockstar has to offer through this ambitious work. Our assessment in this review will be combined with the improvements and updates that exist in the PC version this time.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a variety of extraordinary charms, the various things he offers will be able to make you seem hypnotized by staring at the monitor screen for hours. With these extraordinary things, Red Dead Redemption 2 able to be born as a fantastic masterpiece & will never be forgotten. we even dare to call it “one” of the best open world games ever and “near perfect”. Some of the minor shortcomings that exist seem to be tightly covered with a myriad of advantages that are presented.

Red Dead Redmption 2 is like a super solid and sturdy giant wall that only has a few meaningless holes. We ourselves are also quite optimistic that Red Dead Redemption 2 is a super strong candidate to win the Game of The Year title in 2018. Which may come face to face with one of the other incredible masterpieces that have rolled out this year – God of War.

In terms of content and systems, the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is almost completely the same as the two console versions. It’s just that now it comes with an extra photo mode to capture the visual beauty that is presented, which we will discuss further later.

More “suitable” controls

Of course, as a shooter game, the most comfortable control to play it is through the keyboard and mouse, and that is what happened to the PC version of RDR 2. Of course you don’t need the help of joystick-style auto-aim to aim at the enemy, because with a mouse aim it feels more flexible and easier.

As a complex game, the control in this PC version also feels easier with the many shortcut options on the keyboard. To access anything now feels easier and only requires one to two buttons. The easiest example is of course accessing the choice of weapons, where you don’t need to open the weapon wheel and only need to directly press numbers 1-6.

Much more mesmerizing visualization

It is undeniable that Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most beautiful open world games of this decade. Its presence in the PC version further strengthens this, now Red Dead Redemption 2 can show the highest visual quality. Everything you expect about visualization that is much more captivating will be answered in this version.

Even though it comes without RTX technology, the charm that is presented will still make the eyes stunned, not to mention that the technology is actually really heavy, especially if it is implemented in this RDR 2 caliber game. Various small details are now more clearly visible, starting from lighting, vegetation, shadow, fog, texture, and everything looks more detailed and sharp.

Complete visual setting presets allow you to access a variety of visuals that match your RIG capabilities. For example, we used the ultra preset, and the results do look more detailed and indulgent than what is in the console version. As proof, you can see a myriad of screenshots that we have captured via this review.

Photo Mode to capture every moment

Maybe this photo mode is the most awaited feature since last year, the opportunity to capture the beauty of the world of RDR 2 is always awaited through the latest update. But surprisingly, until now console players have not been able to access this feature, and the photo mode is actually present on the PC version.

Visual presentation that spoils the eye is indeed one of the main strengths of RDR 2 as we described earlier. Of course, the opportunity to capture every beautiful and important moment that is presented becomes an interesting thing. Unlike the console version which can only capture screenshots manually, the PC version this time is equipped with a photo mode feature.

Of course, with this feature, you can be more free to capture every moment with shots that look more cinematic, of course. Just by pressing F6, no matter how intense the action or moment is, the game will immediately stop and you will freely control the camera and capture each shot according to the angle you want.

Interestingly, this photo mode looks very accurate in “stopping” and focusing on objects or small particles that are thrown in the air. Allows you to capture objects such as blood, water, dirt, dust, and other objects clearly without the slightest blur.

Not Optimized?

A myriad of complaints floated to Rockstar’s face as soon as the PC version was launched, gamers complained about the poor optimization there. While we ourselves will not deny it, we have tried it through two RIGs that are classified as “tough”.

From a visual perspective, we did mention the absence of RTX technology, which we think is reasonable. Without RTX, the PC version’s RDR 2 performance is already quite heavy, especially with the presence of RTX, maybe even a strong RIG will immediately fall to its knees. In addition to performance issues, we also often experience technical problems such as bugs and glitches.

Rockstar itself has indeed spoken about the unstable optimization problem and several other technical problems, they plan to fix it soon in the latest upcoming patch. Of course at this time, if you are aiming for a 4K 60 FPS resolution with ultra presets, then the required specifications must be much higher than what we used.

Verdict

The long wait for PC gamers has now arrived, the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is in your hands. The expectation of a much more beautiful visual improvement proved to be true, the PC version was able to bring the beauty of RDR 2 to the maximum level, as if making the game reborn more charmingly. Moreover, with the addition of the photo mode feature, every beautiful and intense moment presented can be captured in a more cinematic manner.

But unfortunately, despite all these advantages, the PC version of RDR 2 is still not a perfect port, it still has a myriad of gnawing problems. Poor optimization issues and a few bugs are enough to detract from the immersive experience it should provide. PC with super gahar specifications are needed to enjoy the highest experience of this PC version.

However, despite some of these shortcomings, the PC version of RDR 2 is still a port that deserves a glance. Especially for those of you who haven’t had time to taste it on the console version, as well as for those of you who have a fierce RIG and hope for a much more charming quality. We fully believe, if Rockstar really takes care of some of the shortcomings that we have mentioned above, then this RDR 2 PC will be a ported masterpiece.
