Launching VentureBeat, Sony Interactive Entertainment has currently invested $250 million in Epic Games. This is one of Epic’s funding programs, which to date has raised $1.83 billion.

With this investment, Sony automatically becomes the small owner of the developer and publisher Fortnite. No, their possession won’t be able to influence anything Epic does. This is because the company which is famous for its PlayStation does not have enough investment to make them able to do it.

In other words, Epic Games will still publish their games as usual, without Sony’s intervention.

Even so, this step is Sony’s first step to sign an exclusive contract with Epic Games. Especially when the PlayStation 5 will soon be released later this year. Making them able to cooperate further with the Unreal Engine developer.

Tim Sweeney as CEO of Epic Games said that Sony’s investment will strengthen their cooperation in gaming, film, and music.
