Sony plans to acquire more developers

They are trying to strengthen their game portfolio.

Since Microsoft left the exclusivity business and hooked Steam as one of its game release platforms. Sony Interactive Entertainment has a new business model that seems to refer to the “escape” of exclusivity. At least after the news that they will release the exclusive game to PC.

However, this does not seem to have stopped them from continuing to strengthen their developer portfolio, Sony Worldwide Studios. Through its corporate report, Sony explained that they would invest their funds in the acquisition of several developers to build Worldwide Studios in order to increase the production of exclusive games.

Last August 2019, Sony just acquired a developer Marvel’s Spider-Man, Insomniac Games to join their Worldwide Studios. Several other developers such as Sucker Punch Productions and Pixelopus have also been acquired by them since 2011.

Their new console product, PlayStation 5 itself will be released in mid-November 2020. That is about a month after Microsoft’s Xbox Series X was released. They even sent an invitation to pre-order the console.
