Reported by gameindustry, Chinese game and technology company Tencent has bought a 20% stake in Marvelous, which is a Japanese pulisher and game developer. The company spent about 7 billion ($65 million) on an 11.45 million stake in Marvelous.

The company is best known for Story of Season, Harvest Moon and the action game Daemon x Machina. Not to mention the several games they have managed as publishers such as Kengan Ashura, God Eater, Monster Hunter Stories, Rune Factory, Fate, etc. They also have experience on multiple platforms.

It was reported that Marvelous sold 8.62 million new shares to Tencent directly, while another 2.83 million was sold by existing shareholders Amuse Capital and Nakayama Hayao for the same price. Marvelous plans to use the investment to expand its existing properties and launch new IPs within the next three years. The two companies have also previously worked together on the Chinese version of Story of Seasons.

Therefore, this is another interesting step from Tencent. Given, they have bought quite a lot of shares in various companies. Possibly, this is the effect of previous collaborations with Marvelous who have worked on the Chinese version of Story of Season. Where there may be hope the cooperation can continue better.
