Elon Musk Shows Video Of Monkey Playing Video Game Using Brain

The experiment finally worked?

Controlling video games using the brain was indeed a human dream in the past, but it doesn’t look like it will become impossible in the future. This is because two years ago, billionaire Elon Musk stated that video games could be controlled only with the brain by implanting a microchip.

To substantiate his assertion, Musk even said that monkeys, a primate species that are quite close to humans can do it. Even though it sounds ridiculous, this possibility could happen considering that Gaben, the founder of Valve, had also said that one day video games would be able to be controlled with the mind. Now, Musk proves it in a video.

Elon Musk’s Neuralink company has finally shown the results of their months of experimentation with a video of how a monkey can finally control video games with its mind.

The video above shows a monkey named Pager who had a chip implanted in his brain six weeks ago. He is given a joystick connected to a video game which he will use to move the cursor over the colored squares. Each time he managed to do so, Pager was given a gift of his favorite banana juice.

Pager activity is recorded by a chip which is then sent to a computer to analyze his hand movements. Neuralink then unplugged the Joystick and the game cursor was still moving around doing its job according to Pager’s mind.

Later versions will be able to shunt signals from Neuralinks in brain to Neuralinks in body motor/sensory neuron clusters, thus enabling, for example, paraplegics to walk again

Neuralink’s goal in developing this technology is actually to help people with paralysis to carry out their normal activities using their brains. Musk agreed by tweeting on his Twitter account that the first product from Neuralink would allow people with disabilities to control smartphones.

Musk continued that in further development, the product is also likely to be able to make paralyzed people walk again. It also ensures that the chip is safe because it can be recharged without the need for cables or wireless.

The discovery of Musk and his team at Neuralink became one of the breakthroughs not only in the medical world, but also in other fields including video games. If this is further developed by scientists around the world, of course it is not impossible if in the future there will be video games that can be controlled with technology derived from Neuralink.
