Just Like Anthem, EA Stops "Gaia" Development

In development for 6 years, EA was recently reported to have discontinued one of the projects Motive was working on, Gaia. Just for information, ‘Gaia’ is codename and not the original title.

According to news circulating, EA was forced to take this decision after considering several things.

EA Stops Gaia Development

According to a report from Jason Schierer, EA was forced to cancel the development of Gaia after this game was worked on for 6 years. The company was forced to take this decision in response to the cancellation of the Anthem 2.0 project which was announced some time ago.

Furthermore, all the teams that participated in working on Gaia have been transferred to other projects. Jason also mentioned that the Motive studio had been in chaos since 2017. For your information, Motive received a team member from BioWare Montreal which had to be closed after the failure of Mass Effect: Andromeda.

In addition, Motive also received several creative teams from Star Wars Battlefront 2 which made the studio situation a little out of control. For now, Motive will at least still work on various projects and also help other studios.

EA is now focusing on developing Mass Effect and Dragon Age 4

Anthem | BioWare

In an announcement they wrote a few days ago, Producer Executive Christian Dailey said that they were forced to stop the development of this game due to the Covid-19 pandemic. During these times, the team could not work optimally and improve Anthem.

I know this will disappoint the Anthem community of players who have loved this game. We also of course feel guilty that we can no longer continue its development. For me personally, Anthem is the game that brings BioWare from the most challenging experience.

Say Dailey

Although the development of Anthem was discontinued, the live service of the game will continue in the future. EA and BioWare’s decision certainly makes sense considering that Anthem got a bad response after so many bugs and problems.

After canceling Anthem development, BioWare will focus on Dragon Age and Mass Effect.
