Remembering the Old Game Magazine that Colored the Days of Indonesian Gamers

The number of digital portals and information nowadays makes the existence of conventional reading increasingly eroded, and magazines are no exception. In the past, before the internet grew rapidly as it is today, the only means for readers to get the latest information related to their hobby was through magazines.

We are now officially on the platform Tiktok! Follow our Tiktok account at @gamebrott.com to find various information and our other interesting video content.

Published at least once a month, magazines are increasingly considered less effective in conveying information. As a result, now magazines that used to exist in Indonesia are slowly disappearing, including magazines that discuss the game industry itself. Admittedly, perhaps most of us grew up with the iconic gaming magazines that once colored our days as gamers. Having been around since the 1990s, these legendary magazines have been accompanying Indonesian gamers for a dozen years, until finally starting to fade and go out of business in 2010 – 2014’s.

There are many cool game magazines that have colored the journey of gamers in Indonesia, ranging from Hot Game, Gamestation, Ultima, PC Gamer, Zigma Omega, and many more. For ourselves, there are many memories left by these magazines. We still remember very well every month to look forward to the latest edition of Hot Game, for example, which always provides in-depth walkthroughs, information, giveaways, and bonus posters that are ready to be used as room wall decorations.

Zigma Omega.

Hot Game used to be a magazine that often brought special editions related to a franchise, where in a special edition, they would bring a complete discussion of a franchise from beginning to end. Not to forget, of course, they will provide interesting bonuses related to the franchise they are discussing, as in this Metal Gear Solid and Yakuza edition for example.

These old and legendary magazines are able to provide their own uniqueness which always makes the readers feel at home and interested. Gamestation also, for example, in the mid to late 2000s they always presented interesting bonus cassettes, these cassettes usually contained content that was delivered in the form of videos titled “GameTV”.

One of them is the “ancur video” – a parody of a hilarious game played by the Gamestation crew themselves (perhaps some of the former Gamestation crew can feel a little nostalgic when reading this article). In addition, the magazine usually also often brings short comics that are not only funny, but also look cool.

But unfortunately, behind the high popularity of its time, now the actions of these legendary old school magazines have to stop. We ourselves are frankly proud and happy to have witnessed the growth of the print game media that has ever existed in Indonesia.

All the memories that were embedded will always be remembered, thank you for coloring our past with a myriad of interesting content. An example of a spirit of journalism that we can – Gamebrott as a digital game portal today can strive for and continue.
