Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Reference Collection That You May Not Know Is in Your Favorite Game

Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure is one of the most popular manga in Japan. The popularity of the strange adventures of Joestar and its derivatives only spread throughout the world when Hirohiko Araki’s manga was adapted into an anime by David Production from 2012 until now.

We are now officially on the platform Tiktok! Follow our Tiktok account at @gamebrott.com to find various information and our other interesting video content.

If you play on the internet a lot, it’s almost impossible not to see at least one “jojo reference” joke pop up on the social media feeds you browse. Artsyle is so flamboyant but at the same time also manly and the action is too over-the-top makes Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure has a unique style and is difficult to compare with other manga and anime currently available. With its unique style and increasing popularity, it is quite natural that this manga/anime is being referenced more often, whether it be in other anime or even other media such as video games.

On this occasion, we try to sort various Jojo references that you may not even realize are in your favorite game. Without further ado, let’s just take a look:

Yakuza 0

In Yakuza 0, the one that Goro Majima faced was Jo Amon. When you finish defeating him, then Goro will wonder what’s the problem with this guy Jo that he has to fight with him. For him the fight with him became a very “bizarre” moment.

Dark Souls –

In Dark Souls 2, one of the bosses you will face is Executioner’s Chariot. Although by design this boss is not inspired by any Jojo character, Jojo’s reference comes from the name of the boss itself. When From Software released Network Test of the game, this boss was briefly named ‘Silver Chariot’ which was the name of Jean Pierre Polnareff’s Stand.

Not quite up here, another Jojo reference comes in Dark Souls. One of the bosses named High Lord Wornir seems to take a lot of inspiration from one of the antagonist Stands, namely Justice belonging to Enya Geil who is present in part 3. Not only from the design of the form, but one of the abilities of High Lord Wornir is to emit fog that can kill players, less more similar to the abilities of Justice based on fog.

Bayonetta

One of the attacks that Bayonetta can perform is to issue a The Little Devils on the gun. This is a direct reference from Hideki Kamiya to Mista’s Sex Pistols in part 5. Just like the Stand itself, the five demons from The Little Devils are said to have their own characteristics and miss one number between them. If Mista considers number 4 to be an unlucky number, Bayonetta actually considers number 2 to be so.

Castlevania

There are many Jojo references in this Konami game, so I will summarize them:

  • Stone masks are present in Symphony of the Night and Curse of Darkness, stone masks are a source of conflict from part 1 of the story where the mask can give vampire abilities to the user.

  • The Star Platinum reference is present in Aria of Sorrow and Harmony of Dissonance, in both of these reference games it is present as a kind of sub-weapon and when activated will appear a spiritual creature that hits quickly while shouting “ora ora” which is the hallmark of Star Platinum.

  • The World reference comes Dawn of Sorrow, one of the bosses in the game, Zephyr, has the ability to stop time and can also throw knives like Dio in Part 3. To complete this reference, the battle takes place in the clock tower.

Danganronpa

There are a lot of references in this game and it’s almost hard to explain without spoilers. Therefore, I will briefly show some that you may not be aware of.

Crazy Diamond is Josuke Higashikata’s stand reference in part 4
One of the poses of Dio Brando in Part 1 and Part 3
Similar design to Rohan Kishibe’s Stand Heaven’s Door in Part 4

Devil May Cry

One of the enemy designs took inspiration from the shape of the Stone Mask in part 1.

Street Fighter

Many of the roster fighters in this game take inspiration from Jojo’s character set. Here’s a quick summary:

Jury and Jolyne Kujo from part 6
Rose and Lisa Lisa from part 2
Guile with Stroheim from part 2 and Polnareff from part 3

There are many more Jojo references in this game which, if discussed one by one, can take up a full page. What’s unique is that Capcom also developed a Jojo-based fighting game for arcades in 1998.

Terraria

In the game, which is widely considered to be a 2D version of Minecraft, players can find armor called “Stardust Guardian” which when used will release a protective figure that can hit quickly. This is of course a reference to Jotaro Kujo’s Star Platinum in part 3.

Team Fortress 2

Unlike before, Jojo’s reference in this FPS game created by Valve comes from community-made items. However, Jojo’s reference is still a reference when he enters the game. The reference in question comes to the cosmetic item, the hat and jacket of the Heavy character, which have characteristics similar to those worn by Jotaro Joestar. Not only that, War Paint with the name Skull Study looks inspired by the tie motif used by Part 4 antagonist – Yoshikage Kira.

Undetale

One of the mini bosses that you will meet in this indie game is Mad Dummy, and in the final phase of the fight, he will throw a knife while shouting “Futile” many times. This is similar to the scene where Dio throws a knife at Jotaro while shouting “Young” which, like “Futile”, both mean “useless” or “futile”.

Persona 5

During the school session in Persona 5, there was a time when the teacher asked “What is the name of the phenomenon where the clock hands seem to stop moving?” One of the answers you can choose is “The World. This is a reference to the power of Dio’s Stand – The World or Za Warudo which is where he can stop time for a few seconds. Other than that, Persona’s abilities are basically the same as Stands, so yeah… the whole game is pretty much a Jojo reference.

Dota 2

This Valve game also has a Jojo reference that comes from a cosmetic item made by the community, or more precisely on the loading screen of one of Phantom Assassin’s item sets. The pose that Phantom Assassin does on the loading screen belongs to the typical pose made by Caesar’s character in Part 2.

Apart from this community content, one of the contents of this game which may be Jojo’s reference is the animation driven by Faceless Void when performing his ultimate skill “Chronosphere”. The animation he does is more or less similar to one of the poses made by Dio, a character known for his ability to stop time.

Tekken series

Several references can be found in this one franchise and have been confirmed by the game director Katsuhiro Harada. As an opening, Paul Phoenix’s hairstyle takes inspiration from Polnareff’s hairstyle.

Kazuya’s “devil” power in the first game has a heavily inspired appearance from Jotaro’s Star Platinum.

The gloves worn by Kazuya himself look similar to the gloves owned by Star Platinum.

And the latest addition to the new franchise series is the presence of Dio’s pose on the character of Claudio Serafino.

Skullgirls

Another fighting game that takes a lot of inspiration from Jojo, this time it comes from an indie game called Skullgirls. In short, the following references are present in this game.

Valentine and Peacock have character references to Dio in their special moves. Valentine can stop time while throwing a knife while Peacock has the ability to hit an opponent with a roller compactor or road roller.

The Big Band DLC character has an appearance that is more or less similar to Jotaro’s character, especially when the color palette is changed to dark blue-purple which is the character’s signature color in the manga.

Another DLC character in the game named Eliza has the option to change the color of her clothes to yellow-purple which looks like the costume that Dio wore during the Part 3 story.

Bloodstained: Rituals of the Night

Created by the same people as Castlevania, Bloodstained comes with its own set of Jojo references. The earliest you will find is a stone mask that has a resemblance to the mask that was the source of the conflict in Part 1 and Part 2.

In the late game phase, you can meet NPCs who can give you the “Stand Still” shard. This shard can make you stop time complete with the negative color effects of the OVA adaptation as well as the distinctive sound that often appears on Dio’s “The World” stand.
