The Game Awards 2020 will be held online

Since the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the whole world, many companies have implemented a work from home system. This apparently also transitions video game events, which were previously held offline and online at the same time, to become fully online.

Even though E3 2020 was finally canceled, some of its replacements, such as Ubisoft’s online events, namely Ubisoft Forward, Nintendo Direct, PC Gaming Show, and others seem to have adapted to the current situation. This will apparently also be done by The Game Awards 2020.

Speaking with IGN, Geoff Keighley, founder and host of The Game Awards, confirmed that the awards ceremony in the video game industry will continue this year. Keighley said he had been contacted by several parties and confirmed that his event would not be postponed.

Unlike the previous year, Keighley said that this event will be held online. Interestingly, instead of the event going to be the usual small event that some publishers have organized, Keighley confirmed that this year’s The Game Awards is likely to be their biggest event.

Geoff Keighley also made it clear that the show will not be held as a pre-recorded event or recorded online. Instead they will carry out the event directly via online. He and his team will announce the details in the near future.

Unfortunately, there is no clarity at all when The Game Awards 2020 will be held. However, if it is the same as last year, it is likely that the event will be held in December 2020.

Of course it’s not clear what the show will be like in the future, but at least Keighley didn’t cancel it. In the near future, Keighley himself will be the host and producer of this week’s Gamescom Opening Night Live. Where this event will announce several new games that will be released this year and the next few years.
