PlayStation 5 Will Be Able to Play 4000+ PlayStation 4 Games
Not just 100 as Mark Cerny presented yesterday.
The presentation of Mark Cerny, PlayStation 5’s Lead Architect is finally over. Fans’ hopes that Sony Interactive Entertainment would announce its existence had been dashed. This is because Cerny only describes the architecture of the console itself and does not show the public version of the engine. He also did not give a demo at all.

However, there is an interesting thing from Cerny’s presentation, namely the backwards compatibility capability that allows PlayStation 5 to play the top 100 PlayStation 4 games. An indication that they only chose 100 games to be played on the latest console from Japan.
The good news, apparently there was an error in Cerny’s presentation. Sony doesn’t explicitly state that only 100 games can be played. Rather that they had tried to test 100 PlayStation 4 games, when the PlayStation 5 was in development. They promise to try more than 4000 other games to support backwards compatibility.
PlayStation 4 games played on PlayStation 5 will have more advantages. One of them is the higher frame rate and resolution potential. Sony Interactive Entertainment is currently evaluating the games by title to find issues they need to fix from the developers.
The PlayStation 5 is currently still in the works. Sony Interactive Entertainment plans to release it at the end of 2020. It is not clear whether they will delay it since the COVID-19 outbreak.
