30 Years in the Computer Industry, Toshiba Finally Says Goodbye

When talking about 10 years ago or more, the name Toshiba certainly entered the ranks of the most reliable laptop brands. However, you could say now his name is almost unheard of except as a manufacturer for USB Flash Disks and HDD drives.

And it turns out that the latest news that has been heard is the announcement that Toshiba is now fully withdrawing from the computing industry, after about 30 years of being active as a major player in the industry. This sad news was conveyed through their official press release which announced that they had now transferred their remaining ownership interest in the personal computer business to Sharp.

Toshiba Dynabook

Toshiba itself turned out to have sold a large portion of their business, 80.1% to be exact to Sharp in 2018. This makes Toshiba itself have to produce their laptops under a new name, namely Dynabook. But it turned out to be an effort re-branding This Toshiba by Sharp doesn’t work either.

And finally last week, Toshiba announced that Sharp had finally exercised its rights to purchase the remaining Dynabook shares held by Toshiba at the end of June, and had completed all the transfer procedures. So that in the future, the Dynabook brand will be fully owned by Sharp.

With this, the existence of the Toshiba brand in the computer business ended. Even so, the Toshiba brand itself will continue to run in their other sub units. Toshiba itself initially launched their first laptop in 1985 called the T1100. Since releasing the laptop, the Toshiba brand has skyrocketed to be able to lead around the 90s to early 2000.

Unfortunately, Toshiba is starting to fall behind from 2010 onwards where other brands are strengthening their laptop division by issuing special variants such as gaming laptops, multimedia, etc. Do you have memories with Toshiba laptops? Tell me!
