Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Presents Microtransactions to Skip Grinding in the Black Market

A few weeks after its release, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 get a new cosmetic content system that is Black Market. This new content delivery system has the same concept as Fortnite. At each tier level that you pass you will get a new item whether it’s a weapon skin, gesture, spray, or supply drop. Black Market is released free for all players, but the super long grinding time makes players suspicious that Activision will be injection shortcuts via cash for this system. Now, the fear of this fan turned out to be true.

The presence of microtransactions in Black Ops 4 is almost undeniable. It’s just how it is implemented that is a mystery to fans. In this game, Activision applies COD points (via Treyarch on Reddit), premium virtual money in the game which for now can be used to Special orders which can provide more items when completing one tier level in the Black Market and can also be used to skip the grinding process in the Black Market. COD Points are priced at $2 for 200 points for the cheapest, and the most expensive is $100 for 13,000 points.

Each Black Market tier can be purchased for 100 COD points which is equivalent to $1. Seeing that there are 200 tiers in the Black Market, if you use the money to go through all the grinding processes to the end, the total money spent is $200. In addition, if you don’t spend any money at all, it will take you a long time to complete just one tier. From personal experience, it takes around 7-10 multiplayer matches to unlock a tier level which can take at least 2 hours (depending on performance and the mode you’re playing). With this benchmark, it can be estimated that it will take at least 400 hours to reach the maximum tier.

It is reminded again that the Black Market is only cosmetic and does not provide any stats bonuses to content owners. If you’re not interested in doing intense grinding for cosmetic items, then you haven’t missed anything. Even so, this microtransaction system is still being protested by the player community because of the context which is a shortcut to the grinding process that has been intentionally made for a long time and the game continues to apply a season pass equal to the price of the game along with this microtransaction.

COD Point is here for consoles. For the PC version itself, this microtransaction was postponed until next week.
