This was reported by Reuters, based on data from Counterpoint Research, currently global smartphone sales fell 14% in February. In addition, given the worsening epidemic in many regions of the world, smartphone sales are predicted to decline further.

Like Apple and other smartphone manufacturers, the outbreak of Corona forced them to close retail stores in China in February. Data sourced from the government shows that Apple sold fewer than 500,000 smartphones in the Chinese market that month.

China’s sales in February fell 38% from the same period last year. But as many stores reopened in mid-March, sales in the Chinese market are showing signs of recovery.

Not only China, currently South Korea is also experiencing a trend of sales recovery. But Jean Park, a senior analyst at Counterpoint, said: “There are also signs of recovery in South Korea, but for other parts of the world, “the worst is yet to come.”

As more and more countries implement self-defense policies, smartphone vendors face disruptions in the supply chain. As last Tuesday, where Foxconn, one of Apple’s main suppliers, said it would suspend the company’s operations in India in accordance with government orders. In addition, many other smartphone vendors such as VIVO, Xiaomi, OPPO, and Samsung have also closed their production plants.

In other words, if the factory closes, there will be no new models on the market. So customers will not buy smartphones even though shops are open as usual.
