Dev. League of Legends sues Mobile Legends for copyright infringement

If you haven’t slept in the cave in the last 1 month, chances are that you are familiar with the game Mobile Legends which is currently popular in Indonesia. Games from Moonton Technology this instantly makes mobile gamers who are not familiar with the MOBA genre know.

We are now officially on the platform Tiktok! Follow our Tiktok account at @gamebrott.com to find various information and our other interesting video content.

The game at first glance looks similar to the popular MOBA game from Riot GamesLeague of Legends. And seeing that this game is now gaining high popularity, Riot immediately took action. According to PVP live, Riot Games is suing Moonton for imitating their game. (Court file can be downloaded here)

In its lawsuit, Riot claims that Mobile Legends has copied the Summoner’s Rift map as well as enemies, towers, fonts, and champion characters from their game.

Not only Mobile Legends, Riot has also demanded other MOBA mobile games made by Elex, namely Magic Rush: Heroes. Just like Mobile Legends, the game is also claimed to have copied League of Legends in various aspects of the game, even the characters in the game.

This is not the first time Riot Games has tried to turn off Mobile Legends, they previously reported Google to remove the game from the Google Play catalog in August 2016. Google didn’t remove it, but Moonton automatically removed the game before re-released it a few months later under the name “Mobile Legends: Bang Bang”. Along with this new name, Moonton also changed some game artwork which was reported by Riot as plagiarism.

The changes brought by Moonton were still too minimal to allow Riot to free them. Tencent, the owner of Riot now also owns their own MOBA mobile game entitled – Honor of Kings, so this action taken by Riot can also be said to be their action to compete with rivals.

So, what is the fate of this recently rising MOBA mobile game? If you are cool to play this one game, don’t be surprised if the game suddenly disappears from the Playstore or there is a massive change in the game after the existence of this information.
