It becomes something common, of course, when MOBAs compete to maintain the popularity of their conventional games through the release of various new skins and heroes on a regular basis. However, Riot Games with its League of Legends is desperate to try something somewhat different by presenting K/DA, virtual supergroup ala girl group K-Pop consisting of four popular Champions games; Ahri, Akali, Evelyn and Kai’Sa.

Made their first debut in 2018 with single-entitled POP/STARS, K/DA quickly gained popularity. Not only among League of Legends players, K/DA also managed to steal the hearts of gamers in general, even non-gamers like K-Pop fans.

After being replaced by True Damage in 2019, now K/DA is back with an EP (extended play) titled All Out. Through a closed press conference organized by Riot Games, Toa Dunn as head of Riot Games Music and Patrick Morales as Creative Lead of K/DA shared more details regarding the All Out EP.

In addition to the All Out EP, Riot Games also shared a bit insight related to the initial formation of K/DA and its existence in the future. They explained that K/DA first focused on making the music, then chose a Champion with the same criteria fun, bold, easily recognizable even by gamers outside of League of Legends, and fits the feel of K-Pop music.

Although currently K/DA is a little focused on K-Pop genre songs, Riot Games also has the desire to explore more types of music, as well as collaborate with other types of music. artists from other parts of the world. However, they also explained that K/DA has not been able to release other musical works as often as possible in order to maintain their quality.

When asked about Seraphine’s membership status which appeared in the MV for the song “MORE”, Riot Games explained that it was just a collaboration. Riot Games later stated that they have no plans to add new members to K/DA. They felt that currently four members was the right number. Even so, they would still bring a Champion or guest others in other K/DA musical works.

Furthermore, Riot Games also wants K/DA to be given treatment like “real people” or artist real. This, of course, they have started by presenting an Instagram account for K/DA, which is not only a promotional medium, but periodically presents selfie photos of its members, even replicating a moment or situation like girl group in real life. Riot Games of course also wants fans to feel the same way, which they have planned something like events where fans can interact directly with K/DA members in the future.

It is undeniable that K/DA proves that music has a strong influence in enhancing one’s playing experience. The Japanese developers are arguably already fluent in using music to trigger the players’ emotional feelings at certain moments. One of them is like the Persona series directed by Atlus which is known to always come with a variety of impressive music, and regularly present it live concert which his fans always love.

It’s interesting, of course, to expect things like K/DA to really be able to bring a shock to the video game industry. Several other game developers have even tried to follow in Riot Games’ footsteps in bringing characters from within the game into virtual artist. Not to be missed, Riot Games also stated that treatment like K/DA it is also possible to apply it to their other IPs, such as Valorant for example.

Every new work of K/DA is of course also integrated with the game. The appearance of each K/DA member on the All Out EP this time is also available as skin in League of Legends on PC and Wild Rift for mobile. For Wild Rift, you have the opportunity to get one of K/DA’s selected skins for free by completing all missions in the All Out Event.
