Dataminers have found Pokemon Pink buried in the source code for Pokemon Yellow, hinting that the game is meant to be a companion or side series. Dr Lava is a prolific Pokémon dataminer highlighting and researching old Pokémon data and translating the original Japanese developer notes into English. Their latest discovery is Pokémon Pink, hidden in leaked source code for Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Yellow and it’s almost certainly legit. This version was probably the companion game to Pokémon Yellow, before it was cancelled.

It may also have featured Clefairy or Jigglypuff in her lead roles. This led some fans to create fan art (which of course was not official) about Pokemon Pink. Although Pokémon Pink was never referenced by The Pokémon Company, Pokémon Yellow’s source code reveals its title as “Pocket Monsters Pink and Yellow.” “Pink” appears elsewhere in the code, along with an audio file taken from the Pokemon anime.

One of the dataminers theorized that Pokémon Pink would target “girl gamers,” and might even have a female protagonist. Pokémon Crystal is the first game to ask players if they want to use a male or female avatar and Pokémon fans are curious as to what happens to the planned version of Pokémon Pink. Even though Yellow was released over twenty years ago, it’s amazing that new discoveries about one of the biggest franchises are still being discovered today.

Hence, it adds yet another fan view of the early generation Pokemon and the game freak pace which might change for some adjustments. Moreover, it seems from the old data that the changes made by Game Freak are very large.
