Graphics Criticized by Fans, Ubisoft India Denies Prince of Persia Remake Project Funds Restricted

After months of rumors, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake has finally been officially announced. The reaction from fans is unfortunately not so positive. Many say that the visuals offered by this remake look bad and last-gen. When compared to other remakes that already exist, what is offered in POP: Sands of Time Remake does not appeal to fans and gamers in general.

We are now officially on the platform Tiktok! Follow our Tiktok account at @gamebrott.com to find various information and our other interesting video content.

This remake was developed by Ubisoft India, a branch of the studio that previously only served as a support studio for large projects carried out by other branches. So many speculated that this project was underfunded with other Ubisoft projects, and some also thought that the studio still lacked the experience to fully hold a project. Both of these things were denied by Ubisoft India when interviewed by The Mako Reactor.

“No, there is no question of time or funds. For us at Ubisoft, quality is paramount and this has been something we have been thinking about from the very beginning. The project has been in development for 2.5 years. We have almost 170 people working on this project and that’s not to mention some investment in infrastructure to help build the game. There were no cuts in terms of funding or game time,” said Sashi Menon, production director from Ubisoft India, denying the issue of limited funds.

This remake is made with the Anvil Engine, a technology known to be the foundation of the majority of Assassin’s Creed games. Seeing that the engine is aimed more at open-world games and not a linear game with a time rewind mechanic, developers had to face several challenges in making this remake.

Pierre Sylvain-Gires, the main director of the project, explained that what was shown at Ubisoft Forward yesterday was their vision and was intentional from the start. This was done so that the game would not lose the feel of the original version and they wanted the remake to be seen as “too much like Assassin’s Creed.”

“We decided to do a unique visual style to make this game look different from other games. This is not Assassin’s Creed, this is not Prince of Persia from 2008. This remake has to be unique,” said Syvain-Gires. “Our main challenge was to create a game that we wanted to play for nostalgia but we also had to put a modern idea in it. Maintaining a balance of these two things is important [bagi remake ini].”

Despite the criticism received in the first trailer, the developer seems to be maintaining the visual style for now. But anything can happen before the release date later.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake will be released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on January 21, 2021.
