The kidnapping took place on July 4, when the girl was allowed by her parents to go to Tokyo for a vacation. Unbeknownst to her parents, the girl turned out to meet a 44-year-old man named Hiroyasu Goto whom she knew through social media. Meeting social media acquaintances who aren’t well-known tends to end badly, and that’s exactly what happened to the girl. After meeting, the perpetrator took the victim to his condominium. Not long after, the perpetrators took the victim’s cellphone and locked it in his residence.
One day later, the girl tried to find help through the perpetrator’s game console. He used the internet features on the console and tried to contact the Saitama police online emergency services. After exchanging messages several times between the girl and the operator, the police managed to find the location of the perpetrator’s condominium. During the raid, the girl was found bound but unharmed.
The perpetrator has also been arrested and admitted that he did intend to kidnap the girl. The police are currently conducting an investigation to clarify the whole series of the kidnappings.
It’s not clear what video game console the culprit has, but it’s likely to be between a PlayStation or a Switch console, given that the Xbox console itself isn’t very popular in Japan.
