Merged Uplay, Ubisoft Connect will Come with Cross-Play Features
Ubisoft is trying to merge upplay and club through ubisoft connect.
Cross-play is a term that briefly describes how players from one platform can play with other players on different platforms. This feature was achieved after SEGA’s Dreamcast console did its first cross-play in 1998 because of the additional modem it included. Enable users to play games like 4×4 Evo, Quake 3 Arena, and Phantasy Star Online with PC players.

On the other hand, Sony itself implemented cross-play for the first time on Android Final Fantasy XI which allowed PlayStation 2 and PC players to play together on one server in 2002. This feature was further developed after Steam introduced the Steamworks API so that those who play on Windows can play with OS X (Mac) and Linux users.
Since then, several games on modern consoles have started to have this feature. The peak was in 2016-2019 where finally several platforms had started to open up to follow up cross-play. Interestingly, not a few developers are trying to implement it. One of them is Ubisoft.
Ubisoft announced their new program, Ubisoft Connect, which will combine Uplay and Ubisoft Club. The French company is trying to provide cross-play and cross-progression/save experiences for some of their games.
Through the news page that they put on the Uplay application, Ubisoft explained that this system will not replace Uplay but evolve it. Ubisoft Connect will give prizes like Club. The rewards will include consumable items, costumes, and weapon skins. Some of these items can be purchased using a new currency called Units which will be obtained when the player has reached a higher level.
New video games and included in the live-service will get a loyalty system. They also gave away 1,000 gifts from their old game for all players.
However, it seems that not all titles will be supported by Ubisoft. The FAQ page explains that only Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, For Honor, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Hyper Scape, Steep, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 course that will adapt the Ubisoft Connect system. Temporary Just Dance 21 will not get the support system. Here’s a complete list of the games they support.
PC players will certainly understand this system better because it will work like Uplay with various challenges given to get points. The thing that makes it change and seem new is the cross-play and cross-progression/save features with a new user interface and of course remove the Uplay name that has been around for years.
Ubisoft Connect is scheduled to be released on October 29, 2020 along with the release Watch Dogs Legion. Players can download it through the official website either via PC, Android, or iOS. While console players will get the overlay in the game later.
