Nintendo Switch sales beat PlayStation 2 sales in Japan in its first year
Nintendo did it.
As we all know, the PlayStation 2 is Sony’s most successful product of all time thanks to its content and sales from around the world. Not only selling globally, the console also sold well in Japan and managed to occupy the first place in sales, beating Nintendo’s GameCube, Sega’s Dreamcast, and Microsoft’s Xbox. But now the sales of the console, which was released 17 years ago, seem to have to be subdued by its competitors in its first year.

Reporting from Switch Soku, Nintendo Switch’s first year sales surpassed sales of “the king”, the PlayStation 2 in Japan with total sales of 3,258.083 units. This number is hundreds of thousands more units than the Sony console, which was only able to sell 3,016,622 units in the first year of its release in Japan.
The presence of bundles and other promos will likely increase this amount before they close the book. Even so, it’s undeniable that the Nintendo Switch has really had an excellent report card this year.
