PlayStation Now started in 2014 and will get a big upgrade with streaming quality going up from where it is currently stuck at 720p. Through its Twitter account, PlayStation said that the update would come for games with 1080p support, although until now they have not shared a list of any games that can reach that resolution. The steps taken by PlayStation are believed to be a way to continue to compete with Amazon Luna and Xbox Cloud Gaming in the ever-growing cloud gaming industry.

There are currently over 800 games on PlayStation Now with players who subscribed to be able to download over 300 PS4 games to their console. The 1080p update will roll out starting this week in several countries, with players from countries like Australia, Russia, New Zealand and Turkey asking PlayStation to provide the streaming service in their countries.

PlayStation Now itself recently reached 2.2 million subscribers and the update is expected to boost the number of subscribers, especially for those who care about visual quality. The PlayStation Now lineup for May has not been revealed so far, but customers will still be able to enjoy Marvel’s Avengers until July 5 and Borderlands 3 until September 29.

PlayStation Now is currently available to access on PS4, PS5 as well as PC.
