Qualcomm Releases 5G Chipset For Cheap Phones, Snapdragon 480

One of America’s largest semiconductor manufacturers recently introduced a System-on-Chip(SoC) The newest cheap 5G. The chipset is Qualcomm Snapdragon 480.

This SoC is the latest generation of the 400 series that supports integrated 5G network connectivity.

Just like the other 400 series, Snapdragon 480 will later be used for affordable phones, so that it will expand 5G coverage in the future.

As the latest generation chipset, Snapdragon 480 is a chipset made on 8 nm fabrication and has used an integrated 5G X5 modem that supports 5G mmWave, Sub-6 GHz, 5G standalone, 5G non-standalone, FDD, TDD, Dual Spectrum Sharing ( DDS), along with Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.1.

Then, Snapdragon 480 has been equipped with an octa-core Kryo 460 CPU with a speed of 2 GHz. To process graphics, Snapdragon 480 uses Adreno 619 (GPU). Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 480 has two times faster performance than its predecessor Snapdragon 460.

Several Android phone vendors are currently said to have been willing to use this chipset for their low-cost 5G phones in the future. Some of these vendors include Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Motorola and Nokia.

Mobile phones that will use this chipset are said to be introduced in the 1st quarter of 2021. With the release of Snapdragon 480, it can be said that Qualcomm will expand 5G coverage through low-cost chipsets, namely the 4 series.

The promise, expressed directly by the president of Qualcomm, Cristiano Amon. He made the promise through a post on his Twitter social media account.” I hope this 5G chip can be reached by everyone,” Amon said at the time.

Amon estimates that later the price of cellphones that will be powered by this chip will be sold at prices ranging from 125 to 250 US dollars (around Rp. 1.8 million – 3.6 million) in the United States.
