Some BM Phone Users Say They Can't Access the SIM Card, IMEI Rules Finally Start Running?

After being officially implemented on September 15, it seems that the impact of blocking illegal cellphones or BlackMarket has begun to be felt by some users. Most of these users can no longer access Indonesian SIM cards on their mobile phones.

Many of the users then complained about the phone suddenly not being able to access the SIM card in Indonesia. So for internet connection, now they rely on WiFi network.

This was experienced by a user of the iPhone 11 Pro Max who asked why his phone suddenly couldn’t access the SIM card. To make sure of that, he also replaced the SIM card with a different provider, but the result was still the same.

It seems that the current government has actually enforced the blocking of illegal or black market (BM) cellphones through IMEI numbers after experiencing several delays.

Mobile phones and tablet computers (HKT) with IMEI numbers not registered with the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) will automatically be blocked starting Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at 22.00 WIB.

“On September 15, 2020 at 17.00 WIB, the CEIR and EIR systems have completed the system stabilization process,” Gamebrott quoted from the official statement from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics received by KompasTekno, Tuesday (15/9/2020).

“The implementation of the National IMEI control will be fully operational on September 15, 2020 at 22.00 WIB,” continued Kominfo.

The Ministry of Communications and Informatics also appeals to prospective buyers of new cellphones to always check the IMEI number of the cellphone on the official website belonging to the Ministry of Communications and Informatics at https://imei.kemenperin.go.id/. This is done so that consumers do not get trapped and buy illegal phones.
