The Monster Hunter Movie Adaptation Doesn't Look Accurate At All With The Game

Video game adaptations have a bad reputation especially when produced by Hollywood. Not only is it bad in quality, the adaptation of the film is sometimes not the same as what actually happens in video games. Monster Hunter – The popular Capcom franchise is the latest victim of a Hollywood film adaptation, and judging by pre-production leaks alone, skepticism has haunted fans.

The Monster Hunter film adaptation will be directed by Paul WS Anderson, the director known for Resident Evil and Death Race. This film adaptation will star Milla Jovovich, Diego Boneta, and Ron Pearlman.

When the synopsis of the film was announced by Capcom, fans seemed to think it was a parody. The film adaptation will “center around the head of the UN military team named Artemis, played by Jovovich, who is transported to another world full of monsters. There he met a hunter (jaa) who then they worked together to close the portal to prevent the monster from attacking the earth.” (via Hollywood Reporter)

Diego Boneta and Milla Jovovich shared a shot from the production of this film adaptation via their Instagram which doesn’t look like Monster Hunter at all but is referred to by both actors as a movie set from the film adaptation.

The photo uploaded by Boneta indirectly confirms the truth of the synopsis above. The character he plays carries a modern rifle and military vest, two things that never appear in the game’s Monster Hunter universe.

On the other hand, the CGI studio Mr.X will play a role in the CG effects in this film. In one of the demo reels they uploaded, there is a little sneak peek of the fight scene between Rathalos and Gore Magala. From this 7 second footage, it shows the two monsters fighting in a modern setting, confirming the above synopsis more deeply even though this scene will not necessarily appear in the final product.

The Monster Hunter film adaptation is still in the early stages of production, so it is possible that some of the current aspects will be changed so that the film looks more accurate to the source material. But it’s a little doubtful seeing track record from the director and Hollywood in general.
