Try Vambrace: Cold Soul — Alternative Darkest Dungeon Full of Waifu
Since it was first announced a few months ago, the author was immediately interested in trying an indie game called Vambrace: Cold Soul, because the premise of the game is very inspired by one of the hardest games. nowadays, Darkest Dungeon by Red Hook Studios.
We are now officially on the platform Tiktok! Follow our Tiktok account at @gamebrott.com to find various information and our other interesting video content.
It has been released since May 28, 2019, recently the author finally had the opportunity to try ‘how hard’ the game is. And now the author will give a little first impression against this Rogue-like RPG game by Devespresso Games.
Vambrace: Cold Soul opens with you playing Evelia Lyric, going on an adventure to find the truth about her father’s mysterious death. Armed with a journal and a Vambrace (a type of armor for the hands) with magical powers left by his father, Lyric goes to a city called Icenaire which is now cursed and controlled by the King of Shades into a very cold city and is surrounded by a wall of ice that can kill anyone who touches it.
But thanks to the mysterious power of Vambrace which is owned by Lyric, he is able to penetrate the ice wall and enter the city of Icenaire, although Lyric must end up fainting. Lyric wakes up in a place called Dalearch, the only place safe from the power of the King of Shades, and this is where your adventure begins.
As the author stated at the beginning, Vambrace: Cold Soul seems to be very much inspired by the Darkest Dungeon. The author is presented with a side-scrolling game display, but also combined with a classic RPG look in the form of sprites in certain areas. One thing that sets it apart is the way the story is told, which is mostly visual novel style. So that indirectly this game gives a fairly modern impression but still classic at the same time.
You will assemble a team of 4 people, then conduct expeditions to places that are your main objective, and of course against various types of enemies during the journey. And like Rogue-like games in general, this game features a permanent-death feature, which contains dungeons that are procedurally generated (loot, traps, random events etc.), and very limited resource management.
Most of what the author says is quite similar to Darkest Dungeon is the combat mechanics. One of them that may be very visible is the presence of the Vigor status. Where the status is quite similar to the Stress status in Darkest Dungeon, where if the status runs out then your character will die even though you still have a lot of HP. And just like Darkest Dungeon, this game also has a Camp system to restore the Vigor status meter and HP of your characters.
You can recruit various characters with different classes, some focus on attack, defense, balance or full support. Each character also has one basic ability that’s mostly for attack, and a special ability that requires the Flourish status to be met with basic attack, defense or some other interaction. This certainly provides a little tactical element for players to bring out the Flourish ability at the right time.
However, similar to the Darkest Dungeon it seems to be a overstatement. Because the content offered in Vambrace: Cold Soul can be said to be quite ‘shallow’, and very far from Darkest Dungeon which provides a very ‘deep’ playing experience from various aspects of the game.
In general, Rogue-like is a sub-genre that tends to be known for its unusual level of difficulty. Vambrace: Cold Soul of course also provides a fairly difficult game, well, at least for the author it is only difficult in the first few hours of the game, and so it becomes quite easy even until the end of the game.
One of them is because there is no progression level system, which seems to be a very rare thing in RPG games. Not only that, each class even had the exact same status and couldn’t progress due to the lack of a level system. This status can only be increased through Relics that you can find during expeditions or through crafting.
In the end, all you have to do is find your best team combination through a series of trials trials and errors, then equip them with Relics which further strengthens their best Status. And like the author, for example, the combination I continue to use until I fight the final boss, and defeats it quite easily.
However, the author admits that Vambrace: Cold Soul has very stunning art and design for an Indie game. In accordance with the title of the article above, this game is full of charming girls or women and big tits which waifuable as the main selling point.
Like the author, for example, really likes the appearance of the human race, which is mostly seen as a mature adult woman. Or do you prefer fox girl? Exist! Also like pointy-eared girls or elves? Lots! Or do you like Dwarves with thick beards? More!
Not only that, the main character Lyric even has a variety of cool costume designs that you can get by running various side activities, or finding them in places you might not expect. From the looks that make Lyric so strong and charming, strange, to the really ‘naughty’. You can check the picture at the end of this article.
The author certainly considers this a positive value because during the game, the author himself tries to combine a team of beautiful women. The NPCs also look quite charming and always spoil the eye when we interact with them. Truly a pain reliever after a tiring expedition. But for you women, you might be a little disappointed because there are not many handsome, muscular male characters who can spoil the eyes of women.
Broadly speaking, the author actually hopes a lot for this game because it has a variety of potential that should be developed further, even equal to the quality of Darkest Dungeon, or even a better sequel. And for the size of an indie game with a fairly affordable price, the author still recommends trying and buying this game to support the sustainability of the developer.
The author has actually finished this game as well, but the developer recently announced that they will be presenting a new patch that overhauls some of the combat mechanics. So that the author will make a more complete review after the author tries the game again in the next few weeks. In the meantime, please check out some other sightings of the Vambrace: Cold Soul game below.
Vambrace: Cold Soul now available first at PC via Steam. Other platforms are planned to follow in the future.
