Failed to Get License, China Bans PUBG Mobile
PUBG is one of the most popular games and its success can be the target of today’s battle royale games. However, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is constantly mired in controversy.
Previously, this game had been blocked by the Nepalese government, although the lawsuit was eventually dropped. This time, the mobile version of this game is completely shut down in China.
Tencent as the party distributing PUBG in China failed to get a license from the government. In fact, the player of this game is estimated to reach 70 million in China. Had Tencent succeeded in obtaining the license, they would have been able to generate around $1.48 billion from in-app purchases alone.
The reason for the government’s decision is the growing hostility towards video games that are considered violent or addictive. Another reason is that Tencent also holds the license for a South Korean game company called Bluehole. Given the hostility between China and South Korea, it is possible that this is another reason for the game’s closure.
Even so, PUBG players in China can still play this kind of game called Elite Force for Peace. There was no blood when shot, patriotic and anti-terrorist tones being a stark difference. So the government has no problem with the game
