Microsoft Officially Acquires Dev. Fallout New Vegas, Obsidian Entertainment
Officially have a promising line-up of first-party developers?
In the competition to win the hearts of gamers in the console market, Sony and Microsoft are probably the 2 main names that have always competed and adorned the world of video-games for the past dozen years. However, 2018 still seems to be a pretty difficult year for the company that produces Xbox consoles and various types of computer devices in the exclusive game presentation sector. The reason is that the games that they have released have not been deemed sufficient to outperform Sony’s superiority in this field.

franchise series Forza arguably is the only spearhead Microsoft that can save their face this year, despite that in fact they also still keep some secret weapons from Microsoft’s other flagship franchises such as HELLO or Gears of War in the next year. So, is this a sufficient provision to compete in a balanced way with games from the original console made in Japan?
What is clear, the question above is a question that is certainly often echoed by Microsoft executives themselves. And fortunately, they are now diligently making various improvements that are believed to be able to provide a kind of “threat” to undermine Sony’s superiority in the console game market.
According to Microsoft’s official announcement at the event X018, Microsoft has officially acquired Obsidian Entertainment, an independent developer who has a big name in designing high-quality RPG games such as Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, even the game version from South Park. Yes, the rumors that have been circulating for the two of them have now officially become a reality. By embracing Obsidian, Microsoft now has quite positive capital in the RPG game sector in welcoming next year.
Besides Obsidian, Microsoft there has given some other surprises by recruiting one additional independent developer, namely Inxile Entertainment who also has quite a lot of experience in developing RPG games with classic nuances, such as the Torment series, Wasteland, to The Bard’s Tale. Then don’t forget to set up a new game studio which they named The Initiative.
The recruitment of potential developers above seems to be a form of Microsoft’s main agenda this year in order to fix their slow pace in producing exclusive games. Before Obsidian, Inxile, and The Initiative, they have officially collaborated with 2 other well-known game developers such as Ninja Theory (developer of Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice) and Compulsion Games (creator of We Happy Few).
