Microsoft Supports Epic Games in Clash with Apple

The dispute between Epic Games and Apple continues to heat up. After Epic Games violated the regulations of the App Store where software is prohibited from making payment options directly to developers aka Apple does not get the 30% tax they charge on the Appstore, Epic Games immediately filed a lawsuit against the iPhone maker. In response to Epic Games’ actions, Apple withdrew iOS support from Unreal Engine, which affected not only the iOS version of Fortnite, but also all Unreal Engine-based iOS software developers.

Microsoft is now backing Epic Games in its dispute with Apple. Phil Spencer, executive vice president of Microsoft announced that they have filed a statement supporting Epic Games’ action against Apple. They feel that the action taken by Apple to withdraw the Apple SDK from Unreal Engine is unfair.

For Spencer, suddenly turning off support for a program can have a big impact on the gaming industry, especially mobile. Hundreds to thousands of developers ranging from small to large use Unreal as a game engine, all of those studios that do not interfere with the drama between the two companies will be harmed because of the “revenge” response from Apple.

Microsoft supports Epic Games in this situation is quite natural considering Microsoft has also recently been harmed by Apple’s monopoly system. They wanted to release their cloud gaming service on the iOS platform, but due to unreasonable regulations made by Apple, Microsoft was forced to only be able to release their service on Android. Shortly thereafter, Apple was rumored to be building their own cloud gaming service which made the rejection of Project xCloud look more like a monopoly from Apple than a problem. guidelines.
