Borderlands Game Adaptation Film Has Entered Filming Process

The film will be directed by Eli Roth and produced by Lionsgate Films. Through an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Roth stated that currently Lionsgate Films has several production schedules for films and TV series in 2021, one of which is the film adaptation of Borderlands. It is also reported that filming will begin before the summer of 2021 and will take place in Budapest, Hungary.
The film will star Thor Ragnarok and The Lord of the Rings actress Cate Blanchett as the character Lilith. In addition, actor and comedian Kevin Hart is also rumored to be starring in this film, but his role is currently unknown.
Initially, the film was announced in 2015. At the time, Eli Roth stated that his success with Lionsgate Films made him optimistic about the development of a Borderlands film. Roth also stated that Randy Pitchfork as the developer of the Borderlands game and his colleagues from Gearbox Software provided full support for the making of this film. Roth promises the presence of interesting stories and actions that can be enjoyed by both old fans and newcomers.
Besides being directed by Eli Roth, the script for the Borderlands film will also be written by Craig Mazin, who is currently also working on the adaptation of the TV series The Last of Us. Randy Pitchfork as CEO of Gearbox Software and Strauss Zelnick as CEO of Take-Two Interactive will occupy the position executive producer. The film will star Kevin Hart and Cate Blanchett, and is targeted for an adult rating (R-rated).
