This game is getting a lot of controversy.

Like indigo a drop of broken milk can be the right proverb for a horror game from Taiwan, Devotion. The controversy, which fans say was “accidental” to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s satire, has become a multifaceted case. Even though the game has now been removed from Steam, it looks like the case is still ongoing. This time, the game publisher in China seems to be the victim.

Independent, publisher Devotion who distributed the game in China has now lost its business license and was permanently shut down by the local government due to the controversy. This was conveyed by Iain Garner, co-founder of publisher that focuses on Asian and European markets, Another Indie through his Twitter tweet.

According to Garner, he got the news from his colleagues in China who said that they violated the existing laws there without mentioning the incident that happened to the game from Taiwan.

Several Chinese publishers Devotion such as Indievent and Winking Entertainment had indeed withdrawn their relationship with developer Red Candle Games last February, according to the Guardian report. Even so, Taiwan-based Winking is quite safe because they can’t be ensnared by the laws that apply in the bamboo curtain country.

The Chinese government’s decision to close Indievent has shaken many developers and publishers in Taiwan. This is because the financing for Taiwan’s game production mostly comes from China. Of course, the development of the game industry will be hampered if the case continues.

Read on about Devotion so you know how big the effect is in the future or maybe it will be back on the market.
