Former EVOS VP: Still Agrees With Athlete Cuts

Former Vice President of the Evos Esports team, Yohannes “Joey” Siagian, again spoke about the polemic of cutting prizes to the 2019 Sea Games Esports athletes yesterday.

We are now officially on the platform Tiktok! Follow our Tiktok account at @gamebrott.com to find various information and our other interesting video content.

Contacted via Whatsapp message, this former headmaster of SMA 1 PKSD first wants to clarify that this is not a “cut”.

“This is not a “deduction”, because the funds are transferred directly to the athlete concerned and do not pass through a third party,” said Yohannes.

Reported from the GGWP.id article, “Similar contributions and membership dues. A non-profit organization, where do the funds to sustain come from? Must be non-profit. You get it from donations, member dues, gift deductions, and so on.” said Eddy Lim.

Yohannes himself actually understood the logic conveyed by Iespa to apply this, even though he still did not agree with the concept.

“Actually, I can understand the logical flow explained by the chairman of IESPA,” said Yohannes “but still I don’t agree with cutting athletes’ rights.”

He also added that the circulation of money in esports is much different compared to other sports. He also said that in Esports itself there are not a few people who are well versed in business, so there are ways to raise funds other than this method. Even so, he does not agree that if this case makes Iespa a subject of ridicule.

“I don’t think it’s fair either, it’s possible that iespa did feel that this was the best way from their point of view and they took this step with good and right intentions.” said John

Closing the interview, Yohannes reiterates that this problem is not about him and Iespa’s side, what he is concerned about is only the concept.

“Athletes have worked hard and the state’s appreciation for them should be absolute for them alone.” concluded Yohannes to Gamebrott.
