“Today is the day we announce that Mac is moving to the company’s Apple Silicon,” said Tim Cook.

They will switch and will no longer use Intel’s chipsets. In fact, since 2006, they started using and relying on Intel CPUs with x86 architecture in various Mac products, such as Macbooks, iMacs, to Mac minis.

This was done after they switched from PowerPC which was previously used for their various Mac products.

The team says that starting in 2020, the company will gradually switch to using Apple-made chipsets.

According to him, it will take about two years for the company to make a full transition. During the two years is also a transition time for developers to adjust so that their applications can run on ARM architecture processors.

On that occasion the Team also said that the first Mac that will use a non-Intel chipset will be present at the end of 2020. However, the Team did not provide further information about the product.

Even so, Apple will also continue to release Macs based on Intel chips for the next few years, so buyers can choose which product they will buy.
