Qualcomm Introduces Snapdragon 780G, 5G Chipset For Middle Class

Qualcomm, the American semiconductor manufacturer, has just released its newest System-on-Chip or SoC, the Snapdragon 780G. This chipset is the latest generation of the 700 series designed for mid-range phones.

As the latest generation of the 700 series, Snapdragon 780G has been equipped with 5G network technology, the same as its predecessor series, namely Snapdragon 765G and 768G.

Snapdragon 780G has also brought several improvements over its predecessor series, including the chipset being built on the 7 nanometer FinFet fabrication.

Not only that, the same as the one used by Snapdragon 888, this chipset has an eight-core CPU, 2 ARM Cortex-A78 cores with a clock frequency of 2.4GHz and 6 Cortex-A55 cores with a clock frequency of 1.8GHz. Snapdragon 780G also supports LPDDR4 memory.

For graphics processing problems, the Kryo 670 CPU and Adreno 642 GPU are embedded which are claimed to have 50 percent faster performance than the Andreno 620 on the Snapdragon 765.

Snapdragon 780G is also the first to be equipped with a Sectra 570 triple ISP that is able to process images from three cameras at once. The three cameras are Wide angle, Ultra wide and telephoto cameras.

Just like Snapdragon 888, Snapdragon 785G is also equipped with the sixth generation Qualcomm AI Engine which is handled by the Hexagon 770 processor with computing power reaching 12 trillion operations per second (TOPS).

The 5G capability of the Snapdragon 780G is supported by the Snapdragon x53 modem where Qualcomm claims that this chipset has download speeds of up to 3.3 Gbps in the sub-6 GHz frequency.

according to information, this chipset will first be installed on the latest smartphone from Xiaomi which will be released on 29 March. That smartphone is the Mi 11 Lite, which is a low-cost variant of Xiaomi’s Mi 11 series.
