Nintendo has started this first through its educational video games for learning Japanese. They even have a Japanese-to-Japanese dictionary for Nintendo DS and 3DS for Japanese language learners, both foreigners and locals. The good news is, for those of you who like to play video games, especially JRPGs, then chances are you will be helped by the presence of the following games.

Rice Games announced their newest game titled Shujinkou (literally means “main character”). This game is a 2D JRPG that will take you on an adventure and learn Japanese while enjoying the RPG mechanics they present.

Not only learning letters such as hiragana, katakana, and kanji, you will also be invited to learn sentence structure to vocabulary. Not to mention some of the vocabulary that is also often used in Japanese video games.

Interestingly, this game will present learning Japanese that is more fun and doesn’t feel like lessons in general. Rice Games explained that they have prepared Japanese language learning materials ranging from JLPT (Japanese version TOEFL) level N5 to N3 or from beginner to intermediate.

Shujinkou will have over 50 hours of storytelling to teach you about writing and speaking Japanese. The game itself will be released in 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. As of this writing, there is no clarity whatsoever on the exact release date.
