Tencent Acquires Minority Share from Dontnod Entertainment - Developer of Life is Strange

Dontnod Entertainment received an injection of funds from the Chinese tech company of 30 million euros. With this financial addition, the studio’s target to self-publish their own game is getting more and more accomplished.

The Paris-based studio has trusted its partnership with Tencent to help increase the marketing of their game in China as well as on the mobile platform. Their latest game, Tell Me Why, has reached a Chinese audience with the help of the tycoon.

“With this partnership, Dontnod is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the various marketing drivers in the video game industry, particularly in China and the mobile platform,” said Oskar Guilbert, CEO of Dontnod.

This is not the end of Tencent’s “shopping”. The more interested they are in the western game industry, the more studios they will acquire shares in. Many studios claim that Tencent doesn’t take any control over the production and operation of their games, and hope that’s true behind the scenes.
