Tencent Owns Two Domains from Game System Shock

Tencent is known as one of the giant companies that is building its influence on the world stage. Not a few we hear about investments and acquisitions from this company in several game companies and game brands. This certainly has a good impact on the gaming industry.

Reporting from Pcgamer, there has been almost no news from System Shock 3 so far this year, but there is news of a real transfer of the two System Shock domains to Tencent. This indicates that the struggling OtherSide Entertainment Developer has found a publisher.

The domains SystemShock3.com and SystemShock4.com are now owned by Tencent, which is apparently supported by their profiles on the DomainTools website. The record was updated on April 13 this year. Neither site is currently active, and OtherSide uses a different site to share System Shock 3 news.

In May, creative director Warren Spector said OtherSide was willing to go it alone but was still looking for a publishing partner. Since then, the studio has been quiet, despite the pre-teaser alpha in September. The word itself has been dead on social media all year, while staff departures and layoffs paint a pretty grim picture.

If OtherSide had partnered with Tencent, it would have been the second publisher of System Shock 3. Starbreeze got publisher rights back in 2017 when it promised to pour $12 million into the sequel. In 2019, shortly after filing for reconstruction to avoid bankruptcy, Starbreeze resold its rights to OtherSide, which also had to pay back the money the publisher had invested.

Therefore, this is a fairly unique move from Tencent, considering that both the game and the developer are in a difficult situation. It is hoped that more institutions and companies will receive funding from Tencent, especially for game companies in need.
