Speaking with Famitsu, director and producer Fumihiko Yasuda said that Nioh should initially feature an open world setting like Dark Souls. Interestingly, Yasuda and Team Ninja are eager to bring the sequel to Nioh 3 to Open World.

Unfortunately, their wish could not be fulfilled. The reason is, Yasuda confirmed that currently they have no plans to make the next sequel. Team Ninja decided to stop franchise in Nioh 2, at least for now.

If Nioh 3 is really released in the future, the developer will consider the Open World genre with the background of the famous Three Kingdoms era of China.
