Square Enix Doesn't Trust the Hitman Franchise Anymore
For those of you Hitman fans, you must have known that the franchise was originally owned by Eidos Interactive. Which is finally fully owned by Square Enix after they bought Eidos Interactive in 2009 ago and have been active since 2012.
Not Eidos Interactive, but Hitman has been developed by a studio under the auspices of Square Enix – IO Interactive. This Danish developer has been developing the Hitman franchise until 2017 under the banner of Square Enix. IO Interactive is now a full holder of Hitman.
Square Enix Doesn’t Trust Hitman Anymore
They got full ownership rights to Hitman after they officially separated from Square Enix. Even now, this breakup drama still has one unsolved mystery. What is the reason Square Enix wants to release the IP they have owned since 2012?
In an interview with GameInformer, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak said that Square Enix had distrusted the Hitman franchise. This is because the sales of the game in each series did not meet their expectations.
Not Reaching Expectations
Abrak himself explained that this is a Trojan Horse strategy, where buyers will upgrade if they like the product. Initially, Square Enix and IO Interactive believed that they would get big sales at the start of their release.
But unfortunately, it seems that they can’t achieve this through Hitman. This also indirectly makes Square Enix slowly lose confidence in the franchise. Under the auspices of IO Interactive, Hitman is currently entering its third series.
Hitman 3 is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, Stadia, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC via the Epic Games Store on January 20, 2021. What is your opinion about this? Give your feedback.
