Assemble a PC According to PS5 Official Specifications, is it Worth it?

The specifications for the PS5 and Xbox Series X have appeared, although there are slight differences between the two, you can say that they both have fairly similar specifications. This next-gen console certainly brings much higher specifications to support the technological leaps that today’s games are starting to implement. Call it features ray-tracing, 4K even 8K resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate up to 120 fps, etc

We are now officially on the platform Tiktok! Follow our Tiktok account at @gamebrott.com to find various information and our other interesting video content.

Then what if we make a PC assembly with the same specifications as the specifications of the next-gen console. Maybe it’s not right apple-to-apple but at least maybe we can get an idea of how much to pay and what components are used.

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

Both the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X are said to be using AMD’s Zen 2 CPU with 8 core specifications and a clock speed of 3.5 GHz. While it’s not clear if that 3.5 GHz speed is the max speed (boosted) or base speed, the processor variant that is close to these specifications and has been sold freely is the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X.

The Ryzen processor itself carries the AMD Zen 2 architecture, with 8 cores and a base speed of 3.6 GHz. This causes that AMD Ryzen 7 3700X can still be driven up to 4.4 GHz if it is desired. A little overkill but considering that the processor on the Playstation will only focus on helping the GPU process games while on the PC it has many tasks, this choice seems reasonable.

GPU: MSI Radeon RX 5700 MECH OC

When looking for options for the processor can still be searched easily, then the thing that will be more tricky is when we have to look for options for graphics processing aka GPU. Because the Playstation 5 itself uses a custom graphics card from AMD that carries the RDNA 2 architecture with a performance of 10.28 TFLOPs, 16GB of GDDR6 memory, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz.

There really isn’t an option that really equals the performance of the custom GPU. But the closest option is AMD Radeon RX 5700 The difference itself is in the architecture which is still the first generation of RDNA, the memory is only 14 GB, and also the exact performance that is difficult to compare because the GPU in the console is calculated by Tera Flops or TFLOPs units.

Storage: Gigabyte AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD 1TB

One of the revolutions brought by these next-gen consoles is the use of SSDs as storage that promises super-fast data transfer speeds. But keep in mind that the SSD that will be used has a speed of 5 GB / sec and is 1TB in size. So it’s certainly not balanced when compared to the average SSD used by many PC users

There aren’t many options for such super-speed SSDs. And one of the options available is the Gigabyte AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD 1TB which is more or less capable of achieving transfer speeds on par with what the PS5 promises later. Unfortunately, because SSDs with this performance and size are still rare, the SSD sector is one that makes the price list swell.

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 (2×8 GB)

One of the differences between the systems used in consoles and PCs is that consoles do not require separate RAM to run the system, so the console simply uses the RAM on its graphics card to run the system’s CPU and GPU. This system itself makes maximum RAM performance for graphics processing, but is a little bad in system processing by the CPU.

While the PC itself cannot run if it does not have separate RAM. Although the graphics card they also use more or less the same memory. So to fulfill the system, the Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB RAM was chosen which is of course the most optimal choice because even when playing games, the RAM from the graphics card is the one that works a lot.

Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 UD

For the motherboard, the Playstation 5 will definitely use their own custom custom motherboard produced by Foxconn. This motherboard itself will be very basic and without much room for modifications and upgrades. In contrast to PCs that use motherboards from many vendors with their respective advantages.

And to compensate for the high-level parts above, especially for super-fast SSDs that do require a PCI-E 4.0 slot to work. So the choice fell on the X570 motherboard. And the most economical variant but does not sacrifice quality and performance falls on the Gigabyte X570 UD to run all its components.

PSU: Seasonic Focus Plus Gold FX-550

The power supply may be one of the unknown parts of the Playstation 5. However, for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, it uses a 250 watt power supply. So it is likely that the next-gen Playstation 5 console will use a power supply of approximately the same size.

In contrast to PCs, which require more and larger components to be removed, with the specifications above, it requires at least a 500 watt PSU. And for this build, we chose to use a 550 watt Seasonic type Focus Plus Gold power supply so that the distribution of electricity to existing components can be channeled properly.

Joystick: Nacon Pro Controller 2 Revolution

The next gen console will definitely include a joystick in the sales package. And rumors of the presence of a new controller for the PS5, namely the DS5, have been very much talked about. Moreover, from the information that is spread, many say that this new controller will have a touch screen in the middle, as well as additional buttons at the bottom that can be utilized.

While on the PC the option for such is almost non-existent. And perhaps the best choice is the Xbox One Elite controller, which is perfectly compatible with PCs. But with the super expensive price we wouldn’t recommend it and prefer the Nacon Pro Controller 2 which is cheaper but has more or less the same buttons as the Xbox One Elite controller. And with the addition of ‘touchpad‘ PS4 joystick style you’ll probably like.

OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

One thing that many people may miss is the operating system aka OS. Where consoles such as Playstation and Xbox of course already include an OS that is already embedded and can be used easily. However, this OS itself does have limited functions and the majority of course is for running games, with some other features such as running a browser or other applications.

While on a PC, to play games, of course, you need the latest OS that supports the most recent (and later) games, namely Windows 10. And of course, to run games, it looks like you just need to buy a Home edition so that the existing budget is not too bloated, such as using Windows 10 Pro. .

PC Station Total Budget

And if we count all the components above, which adjust to the specifications on paper from the Playstation 5, then here is the total amount you have to spend. Prices below are average online prices and may vary from store and area where you are located.

Component
Goods
Price
Processor AMD Ryzen 7 3700XIDR 5,800,000
GPU MSI Radeon RX 5700 MECH OCIDR 5,500,000
StorageGigabyte AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD 1TBIDR 4,300,000
RAM Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 PC21000 16GB (2x8GB)IDR 1,550,000
Motherboards Gigabyte X570 UDIDR 3,100,000
PSU Seasonic Focus Plus Gold FX-550 (550 watts)IDR 1,200,000
Joystick Nacon Pro Controller 2 RevolutionIDR 1,550,000
OSWindows 10 Home 64-bitIDR 1,500,000
TOTAL
Rp 24,500,000

And it turns out that the budget needed to build a PC unit as a competitor to the Playstation 5 really requires a large budget. Moreover, the concoction above is a basic component and does not include other complementary components, namely the casing, which we might be able to budget as much as Rp. 500,000 so that the total is even Rp. 25,000,000.

That doesn’t include various other components such as the casing fan, liquid cooling for the processor, and even the mouse and keyboard as well. This of course makes price point targeted by Sony for the Playstation 5 will later be far below the PC. It can even touch half or a third of the budget you have to spend on a PC.

But back to the main function, are you building the PC 100% for playing games like on a console or will you use it for other purposes such as work, projects, assignments, etc. While waiting for Sony to issue a price for the PS5, which one might we be able to make the most optimal PC assembly at the price of the PS5, what do you think about this PC with PS5 specs?
