#boycottgenshin Trend Explained on Twitter, What's Really Happening?
Who here wants to boycott the gacha game?
In general, gacha games are a niche game genre. A genre that has its own audience and often has a community that is separate from the wider gaming community. Genshin Impact can be said to want to be a breaker for this limitation, especially from its role as a gacha game with a high production value so that many gamers can try Genshin Impact as their first gacha game.

Therefore, it is not surprising that there are not a few Genshin Impact players who are not familiar with things that are common in gacha games, such as character design or gameplay systems. This caused some Genshin Impact players to feel the need to voice their protests about the game, so the hashtag #boycottgenshin was born.
The hashtag #boycottgenshin started trending on April 6th, around 9am yesterday. The list of complaints that commonly appear in this new trend is as follows.
Animated monster “Hilichurl” which uses tribal dances as a reference.
The #boycottgenshin trend was first started by a tweet from the username @venluvr which contained a clip from the miHoYo studio tour video. The video shows the process of making the Hilichurl dance animation — using the tribal dance video as a reference. In Genshin Impact, Hilichurl is described as a primitive monster who has no sense like humans. This is the basis for accusations that miHoYo equates rural tribes with monsters.

The writing of the characters Kaeya and Xinyan are considered “racist”.
Each character in Genshin Impact has a story text and voiceline that explains more about the character. So far, Genshin Impact has only two black playable characters: Kaeya and Xinyan. In the story text Kaeya is described as an “exotic” character, and Xinyan is considered “creepy” by other NPCs.

Xinyan is described as scary because of her fierce eyes and fashion, her skin color is literally never brought up. stop taking things out of context and making a fuss over it. #BOYCOTTGENSHIN pic.twitter.com/i7ufOi4iWS

The NPC character Ulfr who is considered a “pedophile” because of his dialogue.
Ulfr is one of the NPCs that can be found in Mondstadt. In his dialogue, Ulfr says that he has romantic feelings for Flora, an NPC with a model who looks like a child. Players speculated that Ulfr’s dialogue was a default from the first closed beta of Genshin Impact, where the character Flora was an adult.

The delayed update content is considered as miHoYo’s strategy to maximize profits.
Previously, players got a leak for the Genshin Impact update in the future which brought a new small area called The Chasm. Recently, players have received new information that The Chasm update will be delayed. The #boycottgenshin trend was also used to dispute this.
In addition, many also choose to use the hashtag #boycottgenshin for more tweets weird. (NSFW)
