The creator of the "Moth Lamp" meme isn't happy with his joke being turned into a Fortnite skin
Pop culture is often the source of inspiration for many of the skins and dances of Fortnite Battle Royale. Of course the reason why they do this is to attract the attention of their fanbase, which is mostly young people. Epic Games often use internet memes as inspiration for their content, the latest example is a moth skin inspired by the “moth lamp” meme that went viral a few months ago.

This moth skin was released a few weeks ago and comes complete with a light stand as a pickaxe. This item like other Fortnite items sold for a limited time, but that didn’t stop the creator from arguing about the legality of the action from Epic Games taking his “creation” without permission.
Moth lamp is a meme that was first spread by a reddit user with the nickname No_Reason27. Seeing his meme being brought up as Fortnite content without his permission, he asked if it was legal to do so. He even wondered what he had to do to get compensated or at least turn off the content from Fortnite.

It is certain that this Reddit user cannot sue Epic Games for stealing his idea seeing memes is not something that can be copyrighted. But it does draw attention to whether games like Fortnite can make a platform for creating community content something that actually benefits its creators. Epic Games throughout the success of Fortnite has raised a lot of fan creations, but the creators of that content don’t get much credit from Epic Games let alone monetary compensation.
