12 Years of Operation, Capcom Says Goodbye To Monster Hunter Frontier Z

Monster Hunter Frontier Z is finally closing.

Online games won’t last forever, at least that’s the most obvious thing when comparing offline and online games. Several factors such as lack of players, technical problems such as no fees for servers, not profitable, until the developer’s decision stating “it’s time to end” makes it no longer playable forever. Now, one of the games from Capcom, to be precise from the franchise Monster Hunter I don’t want to have to experience it.

Before Monster Hunter World popular as it is today because of its online element. Capcom actually already has a game with a similar model, namely: Monster Hunter Frontier Z which can be played on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita. The game which started its service in 2007 was finally closed in early January 2020.


Along with the announcement, Capcom also uploaded an Ending Video that you can watch above. The videos mostly show some NPCs expressing their gratitude to you as a player. At the end of the video, they show all the nicknames of the players who had played the game the week before the server shut down. Did you find your name in the about six minute video?

With the closing of the service, Monster Hunter Frontier Z being one of the longest-running online games ever released on the market. His journey of 12 years is proof that online games can last that long if developers are able to continue to provide interesting content for their fans. Now, the struggle seems to be continuing Monster Hunter World which will release the Iceborne expansion for PC this year.
