IO Interactive: The Hitman Franchise No Longer Trust Square-Enix
Is this why they gave IO Interactive their IP?

IO Interactive is a Danish developer who developed the game until 2017 under the Square-Enix banner. They then get the title Hitman after their split with Square-Enix.
However, the drama behind the breakup seems to be a big reason why Square-Enix is willing to give up the IP or intellectual property they have owned since 2012.
Speaking to GameInformer, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak said that Square-Enix has lost faith with the Hitman because of the very minimal sales after they released the game episodically. Abrak explained that the strategy is called “Trojan Horse”, where buyers will upgrade if they like the product.
Square-Enix and IO Interactive believe they will get big sales upfront and convert people to upgrade if they like the game. But the skeptical view of the fans who think Hitman as early access from large publishers, it has resulted in low sales throughout the history of the game.
Abrak explained that the continuous low sales made the owner of IO Interactive from Japan lose trust with the name Hitman.
Hitman 3 will be the closing story of Agent 47’s journey in pursuit of Providence. IO Interactive will step forward after the release of the game and work on the secret agency project 007.
Hitman 3 planned for release on January 20, 2021 on PC (EGS), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch (Cloud), and Stadia.
